Who We Are Education Effect Africa is a Kenyan non-governmental organisation focused on providing children living in marginalised areas with high quality education in a conducive school environment. Education has a transformative effect that empowers people to take control of their lives and well being of their societies. Since our inception, we have been cooperating with educational institutions and communities in Mathare (Nairobi) as well as in rural areas of Central and Nyanza regions. We have been working to enhance quality of education and sanitation at primary school level, to improve schools’ infrastructure and to alleviate the digital divide by facilitating access to modern technologies. Job Purpose In 2014, Education Effect Africa will be implementing the project ‘’School of Health: improving the sanitary conditions of public schools in the rural areas of Central and Nyanza regions of Kenya’’ which is mainly funded by the Polish development cooperation programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of
Poland. The project aims at achieving its objective through: • Infrastructural support: construction and renovation of toilets, water points and rain water harvesting system • Provision of health education to school communities. • Development of teachers and children skills around general hygiene and safe sanitary conditions in schools. Education Effect Africa is actively seeking a qualified health education trainer who will facilitate two 3-day workshops for teachers working in public primary schools in the rural areas of Central and Nyanza regions in Kenya. The main objectives of the workshops are: • To increase teachers’ knowledge about the minimum sanitary standards required in educational institutions and schools’ responsibilities in maintaining them. • To improve teachers’ capacity and motivation in mobilizing students, guardians and other community members in maintaining healthy school environment that is conducive to students’ safety and education. Responsibilities • Designing of the detailed agenda of a three-day workshop and training materials. • Facilitating of two three-day workshops in the rural areas of Central and Nyanza regions. • Submitting report after completion of the workshops. Expected level of involvement Approximately 10 days in April 2014. Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training: • Degree/Diploma in Public Health or related field. • A minimum of three years proven experience in WASH programs in the school setting. • Excellent facilitation skills, completion of professional training course will be an asset. • Excellent command in written and spoken English.
