The Global Climate Adaptation Partnership (GCAP) is participating in a bid for a climate change programme in Kenya. The three-year project with a possible extension of up to 12 months will support Kenya to achieve sustainable growth through improved responses to climate change risks and opportunities. The Climate Change Mitigation Expert will oversee the technical climate mitigation components of the programme, including managing short-term relevant technical assignments for the Government of Kenya and will either be based in Nairobi or travel to Nairobi/Kenya on a frequent basis. Change Mitigation Expertwho will work collaboratively with the consortium implementing other components of the programme to ensure timely reporting and successful delivery of the relevant work streams. Principal responsibilities include: • Manage the climate change mitigation technical components of the project in collaboration with implementing partners. • Contribute to the identification of investment opportunities on climate change mitigation in the various socio-economic sectors in Kenya. • Contribute to the proposal development and evaluation of the Innovation Fund recipients. • International and national co-ordination of climate mitigation technical assistance to the Government of Kenya and implementing partners supported under the programme. • Develop and manage relationships withmulti-stakeholders (such as, the government, private sector and civil society)at the national and county level to maximize the impacts of the programme. • Contribute to the long term sustainability of the programme, including a strategy for knowledge sharing and transfer of capacity and expertise to the Government of Kenya and other related actors outside government. • Stimulate partnerships and help mobilize resources and leverage resources from relevant ongoing/planned programmes and projects. • Contribute to the preparation of project deliverables (such as, work plans, reports, budgets etc) throughout the 3 year project period. Qualifications: • Higher degree (Masters or equivalent experience) in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Climate Change, International Development or a related field • Minimum 6 years of professional experience in the field of climate change mitigation, i.e. with projects and policies on energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable transport, technology transfer, green infrastructure or carbon finance and other climate change mitigation. • Strong familiarity with the climate change mitigation issues in Kenya with proven networks within the government of Kenya, private sector and civil societies • Demonstrated ability to inform and advise strategic and tactical management decision making through the supply of objective information and analysis. • Policy or institutional development/implementation/reform related to climate change and climate change related fields. • Climate Change Mitigation project development, implementation, or demonstrations at local, national and/or international levels. • Project formulation, development, implementation, management, based on Logical Framework of Analysis. • Experience working in the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) will be considered an asset If your career aspirations match this exciting opportunity, please forward your curriculum vitae giving details of your qualifications and experience quoting IDAS/2013/PD in the subject lineon or before 12 July 2013 to © 2013 GCAP Kenya, the Kenya member firm of GCAP International, a Dutch cooperative.
