Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been present in Somalia since early 2004 and has since expanded its programme to Kenya in 2006 and to Ethiopia in 2011. Since 2004, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has demonstrated a regional competence and expertise in working with displaced populations. NRC has mainly focused on Somalis who are displaced by the ongoing conflict and more recently by the drought and famine. The Regional Office is based in Nairobi, Kenya with offices and operations in Somalia (Puntland, Somaliland and Mogadishu), Kenya (Dadaab and Molo) and Ethiopia (Addis Ababa and Dolo Ado).
M & E ASSISTANT – DATABASE
1 Position
Reporting to: Shelter Project Manager
Duty Station: Dadaab
Duration of Contract: ASAP to 31st December 2012 (with possible extension)
Job summary:
Main purpose of the position is to assist in the data management of the NRC shelter projects in Dadaab, by processing data generated by assessments and project progress monitoring, and by keeping the shelter database updated. The assistant will assist in planning and design of projects (through mapping and assessments) and in subsequent reporting.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Work closely with WASH & Shelter teams with collecting, collating, presenting and managing information for M&E related reports
- Conduct and support regular surveys for monitoring and evaluation activities
- Assist in the preparation of project evaluation and/or review reports and draft the regular projects’ M&E report
- Establishment and regular management of database and monitoring system
- Documentation of the projects, including project inputs and outputs
- Data analysis for compilation of monthly, quarterly, annual and ad hoc project data and reports
- Maintain and update the sector specific M&E database, ensuring correct and swift data entry and processing
- Develop data entry forms and reports as required
- Support collection and maintenance of geographic baseline and thematic data
- Research and retrieve data from internal and external sources; and prepare statistical charts, tables and reports
- Prepare maps and other geographic information products (GPS coordinates and GIS Mappings) to assist in project planning and implementation
Qualifications & Experience required:
- University degree, preferably in Geo-Information and Earth sciences, Statistics or other related discipline.
- At least 3 years’ relevant working experience in field of humanitarian/development M&E implementation
- Experience in preparation, analyzing and maintaining complex databases
- Exposure to a wide range of information management systems related to humanitarian/development and/or operations
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical skills (qualitative and quantitative)
- Proficient in using Pivot tables and GIS Analyst
- Excellent one to one and group communication /information presentation skills
- Experience in training and capacity building in M&E mechanisms at various project levels
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities
- Experience working with statistical computer software packages and GIS software’s (Arc GIS 9.2)
- Goal oriented with ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision
