Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been present in Somalia since early 2004 and has since expanded its programme to Kenya in 2006 and to Ethiopia in 2011. Since 2004, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has demonstrated a regional competence and expertise in working with displaced populations. NRC has mainly focused on Somalis who are displaced by the ongoing conflict and more recently by the drought and famine. The Regional Office is based in Nairobi, Kenya with offices and operations in Somalia (Puntland, Somaliland and Mogadishu), Kenya (Dadaab and Molo) and Ethiopia (Addis Ababa and Dolo Ado).
YEP SUPERVISOR
1 Position
Reporting to: YEP Project Manager
Duty Station: Dadaab
Duration of Contract: ASAP to 31st December 2012 (with possible extension)
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Participate in the planning, implementation, expansion, development, coordination and management of NRC’s Education Project activities in the Area
- Assist in the development of operational activity plans, budget proposals and project narrative reports
- Coordinate with Education actors including the Ministry of Education (MoE) and local education partners, communities, NGOs, UN Agencies and other stakeholders
- Break down the annual work plans into weekly, monthly and quarterly plans detailed for implementation
- Develop training programs and teaching materials with particular emphasis on participatory methodologies
- Coordinate activities within and between YEP Centers
- Monitor, evaluate and ensure that the project activities are consistent with plans, budget lines and expected outputs within NRC’s Project strategy and other standards
- Ensure timely procurement, development and distribution of training modules, educational materials and equipment
- Coordinate with the World Food Program (WFP) on food collection and reporting for the Centers
- Assist in the recruitment of learners, academic teachers and partners/instructors for skills training
- Coordinate assessments, progress tracking, sensitization / mobilization and follow-up salient issues
- Ensure effective distribution and monitoring of school learning materials
- Promote, advocate and implement community mobilization on the Right to Education for All (EFA), gender equal opportunities and rights of internally displaced persons (IDPs)
- Follow up the project budget associated with the YEP activities
- Prepare timely periodic YEP progress reports as required.
Qualifications & Experience required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education oriented towards adult education or related field of study
- At least 4 years’ of relevant work experience, at least 2 in Humanitarian, urban informal settlement, pastoralist or other educationally challenged peoples contexts.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good planning and organization skills
- Budget management skills.
- Project implementation supervisory skills
- Ability to resolve individual and group conflicts, team player skills with participatory approaches and proficiency in report writing.
- Ability to work under pressure, and independently with limited supervision
- Possess high cultural awareness and sensitivity
- Sound knowledge of Human Rights and Humanitarian Protection programming principles.
