The Option One, as the name implies is an innovate market leader, testing out new approaches to distribution and wholesale business, meeting the needs of today’s competitive business and the ever demanding consumer. We are currently located in Chuka Town and Keria Market along the Thuchi-Nkubu Road within Tharaka Nithi County and Meru County respectively with a distribution infrastructure throughout the entire Mt. Kenya Region. Our goal is to be a major growth driver of the Kenya’s DEVOLVED “County Economy” and East Africa’s leading “Commodity Power House” by the year 2020 and a pioneer player in the yet to be established Commodities Exchange Market.

MARKETING DEVELOPMENT MANAGER/BRANCH MANAGER
Reports To: C.E.O
Department/Unit: Sales, Marketing and Operations

Main Purpose of the Job

  • Responsible for developing and implementing total sales and marketing function for The Option One Distributors (E.A) Limited.
  • The strategic planning, product management and product performance of the Company’s Channels as determined by customer needs, customer value propositions, the competitor environment and Business needs.
  • Marketing for new customers, increasing share of wallet with existing customers and maintaining sound credit judgment.
  • To develop long-standing relationships with customers and institutions by providing practical insights into their business, particularly with regard to stock and account management.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Accountable for sales and marketing strategy, plans and implementation to deliver on business objectives.
  • Responsible for new product launches and events from creative development to implementation in conjunction with Manufactures.
  • Accountable for the co-ordination of sponsorships and ensure effective management according to agreed criteria in conjunction with General Manager.
  • Responsible for leveraging off the CSR and sponsorship platforms.
  • Manage day-to-day marketing activities related to the Company including budget, advertising and PR interaction.
  • Develop and manage effective merchandise and promotional items for the Company.
  • Responsible for implementing campaigns in conjunction with the General Manager.
  • To perform all people management such as Performance Management, Talent Management, Career Management for direct reports.
  • Provide customer insights to the Board of Directors for Brand development and enhancement.
  • Ensure all communication builds, and is aligned to the defined and agreed business and brand strategy.
  • Develop and maintain mutually beneficial and effective relationships between the Company, Manufactures and its customer Base.
  • Understand business objectives and be able to translate into relevant marketing plans.
  • Ensure that the Company’s content on the websites are up to date and correct at all times.
  • Responsible for any other duty that may be assigned to you.

Engagement and maintenance of effective working relationships with all stakeholders in the organization in understanding business objectives and setting of marketing objectives and plans to achieve business objectives.

Problem solving
Identifying potential business problems and translating them into marketing plans. Problems faced will be highly challenging, involved, and dynamic and time pressured and based on understanding of the Company’s business objectives. The impact on the organisation is significant. Solutions to problems will be in consultation with the General Manager.

Planning

  • Planning will be based on the Company’s long term Strategy and the Marketing and communications plan.
  • Flexibility is critically based on objectives, stakeholders and environmental demands.

Decision making

  • Decisions will be made in conjunction with the General Manager
  • Decisions will be timeously made and due consideration given to high-risk decision that could affect the perception and positioning of the Company.

Key Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Competences

Knowledge

  • Degree in Business or related studies with a concentration in Sales and Marketing
  • Post Graduate qualification in Marketing will be an added advantage
  • Sales and Marketing and advertising industry knowledge
  • A minimum of B in K.C.S.E with a B in mathematics
  • Ability to work at a local and international level
  • Diversity – a knowledge and understanding of diverse local and African cultures and how it related to business

Experience

  • 1 to 2 years experience
  • Minimum 1-year experience working in an African marketing environment
  • Experience in commodities marketing preferred
